What causes hair breakage?
The main causes are: chemical damage (bleach, color, relaxers), heat damage, protein deficiency, mechanical stress (tight styles, rough combing), and dryness. Each requires a slightly different approach — but all benefit from protein and bond rebuilding.
How is breakage different from shedding?
Shedding is natural hair loss from the follicle — you'll see a white bulb at the root. Breakage is snapping mid-strand, usually showing a tapered, jagged end. Both are normal in small amounts; excessive breakage is a product and care issue.
How often should I do protein treatments for breakage?
For active breakage, start weekly for 4–6 weeks, then reduce to every 2–4 weeks for maintenance. Always follow with a moisturizing treatment — too much protein without moisture leads to brittle hair.
Will trims help with breakage?
Trims remove split ends before they travel up the shaft (causing more breakage), but they don't fix the underlying cause. Combine regular trims (every 8–12 weeks) with a strengthening product routine for best results.
