Paraben-Free Hair Products

Parabens — methylparaben, ethylparaben, propylparaben, and butylparaben — are synthetic preservatives that have been used in cosmetics and personal care products since the 1950s. They're effective at preventing bacterial and fungal growth in water-based formulas, giving products a longer shelf life. However, studies showing parabens can mimic estrogen in the body and accumulate in tissue have prompted both consumers and brands to move toward paraben-free formulations.
