Start here: name the problem, then pick the range
Wella runs more care lines than any one head of hair needs, and the names hide the differences. Ultimate Repair, Fusion and Ultimate Color all say something about damage; Oil Reflections, Elements and Ultimate Smooth all promise a better finish. The ranges do different jobs, but you have to start from the problem rather than the bottle. Find the line below that sounds most like your hair, or your client's, and go straight to that range.

The ranges, one at a time
Ultimate Repair — for hair that is actually breaking
Wella's flagship repair system, and the one to reach for when the damage is structural: bleached hair, a colour correction, hair that stretches and snaps when wet.
The Miracle Hair Rescue is the piece to buy first. It is a 90-second leave-in applied to towel-dried hair before anything else, and it changes how the hair combs and how it survives the next blow-dry. It comes in 30ml, 95ml and 185ml, so a client can test before committing. Follow with the Repairing Cream Shampoo and Deep Nourishing Conditioner.
Two products get overlooked. The Overnight Repair Night Serum goes on dry hair before bed and stays in, which suits anyone who will not add a mask to a rushed morning. The Recovery Liquid Layer sits between shampoo and conditioner as a watery pre-conditioning step, for hair too compromised for a heavy cream. The Protective Leave-In Cream is the daily heat-styling finisher.
Who may not love it: anyone whose hair is not damaged. On healthy virgin hair it is an expensive way to buy conditioning that Elements or Oil Reflections give more cheaply, and the leave-ins read as weight.
Fusion Intense Repair — everyday damage control
Fusion targets a different failure mode: breakage from daily mechanical stress. Brushing, elastics, towel-drying, a hot tool every morning for five years. It is for hair that is not freshly bleached but is thinning at the ends and losing length however often it is trimmed.
The Intense Repair Shampoo and Conditioner are the core, with the Intense Repair Mask once or twice weekly. The Intense Repair Discovery Pack lets a client try it first.
Who may not love it: someone straight out of a heavy lightening service. Fusion is maintenance; if the hair is failing, Ultimate Repair is the better spend and the difference shows.
Oil Reflections — shine, not repair
The most misunderstood range Wella makes. Oil Reflections is a shine system built on camellia oil; it works on how light behaves at the surface, not on rebuilding the interior. Recommend it for healthy hair that looks dull and matte — often dark hair, coarse hair, or hair over-washed with something harsh.
Start with the Luminous Reveal Shampoo and Luminous Instant Conditioner, then add the Luminous Reboost Mask weekly.
The two oils are not interchangeable. The Luminous Smoothening Oil is the richer one, for thick or unruly hair that needs weight to sit down. The Light Luminous Reflective Oil is for fine and medium hair that goes greasy on the standard formula; mismatching the two is the commonest error in this range. A 30ml travel size of the smoothing oil exists too. The Luminous Magnifying Elixir is the intensive: ten single-use 6ml ampoules, a course rather than a daily product, and clients should be told so.
Who may not love it: anyone with real damage. It will make broken hair look better on day one and will not stop it breaking on day thirty.
Elements — the short-ingredient-list range
Wella's sulfate-free renewing line, formulated without added colourants, for anyone who wants a gentler wash: a client who reacts to strong surfactants, whose scalp feels tight after shampooing, or who prefers a plainer formula. The Renewing Shampoo, Renewing Conditioner and Renewing Mask are the whole range, which is part of the appeal. We do not currently stock INVIGO Balance, so Elements is where to route anyone asking for a scalp-focused Wella wash.
Who may not love it: someone with a loud, specific problem. Elements is deliberately broad; brassy blonde or flat fine hair needs a targeted range.
ColorMotion+ — colour protection with a bond-care mask
The Structure+ Mask is the reason to buy this range: an in-shower treatment for hair that is coloured and stressed, which describes most colour clients honestly assessed. Pair with the Colour Protection Shampoo and the ColorMotion+ Conditioner. The Colour Protection Set bundles the routine for someone starting from nothing.
Who may not love it: a client with virgin or lightly glossed hair. With no damage to work on, INVIGO Brilliance protects colour just as well for less.
INVIGO — four sub-lines solving four different things
INVIGO is not one range, and treating it as one is why clients end up with the wrong bottle.
- Brilliance is colour protection split by texture, and the split matters. The fine to normal shampoo and conditioner are lighter; the coarse shampoo and coarse conditioner are richer. The masks follow suit: fine to normal and coarse. Putting a fine-haired client on the coarse formula is the fastest way to have her say Wella made her hair greasy.
- Nutri-Enrich is moisture for dry, stressed hair: shampoo, conditioner and mask. The Warming Express Mask is the one-minute version for people who will not sit under a towel, the Wonder Balm is the leave-in, the Frizz Control Cream handles surface fluff, and the Booster is a shot added after a hard week.
- Volume Boost is for fine hair only: the Bodifying Shampoo, the Crystal Mask — a rare mask that does not flatten fine hair — the Uplifting Care Spray and the Booster.
- Blonde Recharge is toning maintenance. The Cool Blonde Conditioner and the Cool Blonde Shampoo in 1L hold a cool blonde between toners. Every wash pushes the blonde too cool and dull; once or twice a week is right.
Across all of it sits the Miracle BB Spray, an 11-in-1 leave-in for anyone wanting one bottle to detangle, protect and finish. It does not replace a targeted treatment on damaged hair.
Ultimate Color — the simple colour-care system
For a colour client who will not run a five-step routine. The Sulfate-Free Shampoo and Moisturizing Conditioner also come as a duo, in 250ml + 200ml retail and 1L + 1L back-bar pairings. The Miracle Leave-In Mask adds UV protection, which matters more in a Canadian summer than clients assume, and the Shine Spray finishes it. The Colour Sealer is the salon post-service step.
NutriCurls — waves and curls are two different products
Wella splits this range by pattern, and the split is real. Waves get the Waves Shampoo and the lighter Waves Cream. Defined curls get the Micellar Shampoo and the Curlixir Defining Balm, which holds without the crunch that sends curly clients back to co-washing alone.
The Cleansing Conditioner is the co-wash, the Detangling Conditioner comes in a 1L that curly clients get through quickly, and the Deep Treatment Mask is the weekly step. On styling, Boost Bounce mousse, Curl Shaper cream, Soft Twirl foam and Fresh Up spray cover day one through day three.

1. Bleached blonde starting to break

Several ranges carry sizes that never reach the retail shelf. INVIGO Brilliance and Nutri-Enrich run to 3.8L in the shampoo — Brilliance coarse and Nutri-Enrich — as does the Brilliance fine to normal conditioner. Elements, ColorMotion+, Ultimate Color, Ultimate Smooth, Fusion, Oil Reflections and NutriCurls all offer 1L washes, and masks step up to 500ml in ColorMotion+, INVIGO Brilliance, Oil Reflections and Ultimate Smooth. Ultimate Repair comes as a 1L shampoo and 500ml conditioner back-bar duo, the 1L shampoo also in a refill pouch.
Litres need pumps: the Wella Litre Pump Dispenser for standard bottles, the shared Wella and Sebastian pump where both brands sit on one back bar, and the Ultimate Back-Bar Bottle Pump in 500ml and 1L fittings.
Questions we get asked
Ultimate Repair or Fusion — which is stronger?
Ultimate Repair, clearly. Fusion is maintenance; Ultimate Repair is the intervention for hair that is failing. If budget is tight and the hair is genuinely breaking, buy less Ultimate Repair rather than more Fusion.
Can I use Oil Reflections on damaged hair?
You can, and it will look better immediately, but it is not doing repair work. Use a repair range for the wash and treatment, then add an Oil Reflections oil as the finish. Oil Reflections alone on broken hair is a poor spend.
Does the fine versus coarse split in INVIGO Brilliance really matter?
Yes, and it is the mismatch we see most. The coarse formulas are noticeably richer. A fine-haired client on the coarse line will report limp, greasy hair and blame the brand rather than the choice.
Purple shampoo or Blonde Recharge for brassiness?
Blonde Recharge is toning care, not a colour service. It holds a cool blonde between appointments and keeps yellow from creeping in, but it will not correct blonde that has already gone properly brassy. That is a toner in the chair.
What should someone with frizz buy?
Frizz is usually dryness plus a raised cuticle, so it needs smoothing rather than repair. The Ultimate Smooth Shampoo and Conditioner with the Deep Smoothing Mask is the core; the Miracle Oil Serum adds UV and heat protection. Curly hair with frizz goes to NutriCurls instead — Ultimate Smooth softens the pattern.
How freely can these ranges be mixed?
Freely, and often better than staying loyal to one line. Pick the wash for your scalp and hair type, the treatment for your worst problem, the leave-in for how you style. A Nutri-Enrich wash, a Structure+ Mask and a Miracle Hair Rescue leave-in is a coherent routine. The one place not to mix is inside a texture-split range: stay on the fine or the coarse side of INVIGO Brilliance. If hot tools go on daily, add Eimi Thermal Image over whichever range you pick.
